Houston Wire & Cable Company’s LifeGuard; named as one of BuildingGreen’s Top Products for 2007
This annual award recognizes the innovative and exciting BuildingGreen products added to the GreenSpec Directory or covered in Environmental Building News.
HWCC’s LifeGuard cable was recognized for superior flame resistance while producing minimal smoke, carbon monoxide (CO) and acid gas during combustion. When halogenated materials burn, they produce thousands of tiny particles consisting of gas, soot, and chemical residue. This combination of products is seen as smoke and is harmful to people, equipment, and the environment as they can produce extremely dangerous gases.
Cable manufactured with non-halogenated jacketing material such as HWCC’s LifeGuard cable, virtually eliminate the two most common halogens utilized in cable jacketing materials, chlorine and fluorine. It is made using low-smoke zero-halogen compounds, which have excellent electrical and mechanical characteristics, superior flame resistance, low smoke production and reduced toxicity.
