Challenge
Based on evolving technology requirements, end users of a leading provider of mobile offices, portable storage containers and other modular units were cutting into walls to relocate power and data outlets. Damage to the units meant complex rebuilds, project delays and a loss in profitability.
Solution
Wesco’s Manufactured Structures team initiated conversations with the manufacturer of modular space and storage solutions to develop a truly transformative solution—a custom-designed retrofit data hub. Over several months, Wesco designed and built multiple prototypes of the solution for evaluation at the customer’s locations across the United States, culminating in a model unveiled at their 2020 national sales meeting.
Wesco also provided best-in-class, power poles, selected specifically for the modular industry, to deliver power and data drops that could be reconfigured to complement the customer’s extensive office furnishings portfolio.
Results
The retrofit data hub’s networking capabilities give the customer a new technology-enabled solution to market to its users. The data hub can be preconfigured for a user’s temporary or permanent modular spaces, and users can more easily relocate the hub based on their requirements without damaging the space.
Wesco confidently developed this network-enabled, ready-to-work system to create a path forward for customers to meet users’ accelerating demands for more powerful data and communications solutions.
